The solar activity has been quiet over the past 24 hours. The Sun is currently spotless and the X-ray flux remained below B-level. Solar activity is expected to remain at low levels for the next 24 hours.
No Earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CME) were observed over the past 24 hours in the available coronagraph imagery. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux remained at background levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain at low levels.
The Earth is currently under the influence of a high speed solar wind regime. The solar wind speed was fluctuating around 320 km/s, but has now increased to around 580 km/s. The total magnetic field strength has fluctuated between 2 nT and 12 nT. The Bz component fluctuated around 0 nT, ranging between -8 and +11 nT (as recorded by ACE). Geomagnetic conditions ranged between Kp index 1-3 (NOAA) and local K index 0-3 (Dourbes) over the past 24 hours.
A recurrent low latitude equatorial coronal hole of negative polarity passed the central meridian yesterday. The effect of the High Speed Stream (HSS) was initially experienced this morning at 04:00 UT when we experienced a ramp up in the solar wind speed as we entered the HSS produced by the hole. Last rotation, this coronal hole did not produce major enhancements in the solar wind conditions (solar wind speed remained below 600 km/s and the total interplanetary magnetic field was below 10 nT). However, enhanced solar wind conditions may be experienced this rotation.
