Beta region NOAA 2850 showed signs of decay in the past 24 hours, and produced a B6.1 flare peaking at 6:23 UT on August 4. The chance for a C flare in the next 24 hours is estimated at 30%.
No Earth-directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) were observed in available coronagraphic imagery.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels in the past 24 hours, and is expected to stay at nominal levels in the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux was at nominal levels in the past 24 hours, and is expected to stay at nominal levels in the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron fluence was at nominal levels in the past 24 hours, and is expected to stay at nominal levels in the next 24 hours.
The solar wind speed near Earth as registered by DSCOVR varied between about 300 and 375 km/s during the past 24 hours. The Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF) was oriented predominantly away from the Sun, and its magnitude varied between about 1 and 8 nT, with current values around 4 nT. Bz was below -5 nT between about 20:00 and 21:00 UT on August 3, with a minimum of about -6 nT. Nominal solar wind conditions are expected in the next 24 hours.
Quiet geomagnetic conditions (K Dourbes between 1 and 2; NOAA Kp between 0 and 2) were registered in the past 24 hours. Quiet to unsettled levels (K Dourbes < 4) are expected on August 4, 5 and 6.
Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 016, based on 20 stations.
