Joint USAF/NOAA Report of Solar and Geophysical Activity

SDF Number 30 Issued at 2200Z on 30 Jan 2024

IA. Analysis of Solar Active Regions and Activity from 29-2100Z to 30-2100Z

Solar activity has been at low levels for the past 24 hours. The largest solar event of the period was a C5 event observed at 30/1740Z from Region 3559 (N29W97). There are currently 4 numbered sunspot regions on the disk.
IB. Solar Activity Forecast
Solar activity is expected to be low with a chance for M-class flares on days one, two, and three (31 Jan, 01 Feb, 02 Feb).
IIA. Geophysical Activity Summary 29-2100Z to 30-2100Z
The geomagnetic field has been at quiet to unsettled levels for the past 24 hours. Solar wind speed reached a peak of 530 km/s at 30/0541Z. Total IMF reached 5 nT at 30/0009Z. The maximum southward component of Bz reached -5 nT at 30/0314Z. Protons greater than 10 MeV at geosynchronous orbit reached a peak level of 41 pfu at 29/2100Z. Electrons greater than 2 MeV at geosynchronous orbit reached a peak level of 200 pfu.
IIB. Geophysical Activity Forecast
The geomagnetic field is expected to be at quiet to active levels on day one (31 Jan), quiet to unsettled levels on day two (01 Feb) and quiet levels on day three (02 Feb). Protons greater than 10 Mev have a slight chance of crossing threshold on day one (31 Jan).
