Bulletin

Only two B-class flare was reported during last 24 hours. The most intensive one was B9.4 flare (peaked at 05:23 UT, on May 09), originated from the NOAA AR 2541 which currently has alpha configuration of its photospheric magnetic field. Three active regions (AR 2541, AR 2542, AR 2543) are currently situated around the central meridian. The AR 2540 and 2539 will pass over the west limb in approximately 24 hrs. Simultaneously two returning ARs will appear in 24 hrs approximately. No Earth directed CMEs were observed in the last 24 hours. We can expect only low C-class flares in the next 24 hours. The solar wind speed is continuously increasing due to equatorial coronal hole observed at the central meridian in the morning of May 06. The current solar wind value is 750 km/s and the interplanetary magnetic field magnitude is about 5 nT. The current Bz value is around -5 nT. Number of long intervals of negative value of the Bz component of the interplanetary magnetic field (down to -10 nT), and fast solar wind speed (about 670 km/s) induced continuation of the geomagnetic storm which is now lasting for more than 24 hours. NOAA reported Kp=7 around midnight of May 08 and early morning of May 09, and the local station at Dourbes reported K=5. Kioto reported Dst=-101 index around midnight of May 08 and early morning of May 09. Geomagnetic conditions are expected to remain active within next 24 hrs, with no more strong increase in Kp values.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 050, based on 17 stations.
