Bulletin

Over the past 24 hours solar activity has been low. The largest flare was a C2.2 class flare. Active Region (AR) 2585 (Macintosh class:Csi; Mag. type:Beta) has just emerged over the East solar limb and has been most active, producing the C2.2 class flare, which peaked at 20:19 UT yesterday. All other ARs have shown low levels of activity. Previously active AR 2583 has now moved over the West solar limb. Solar protons have remained at background levels over the past 24 hours. No Earth directed CMEs were detected. Solar activity is expected to remain low over the next 24 hours with a high chance of C-class flares and a low probability of M-class flares. The solar wind speed has fluctuated between 380 to 480 km/s over the past 24 hours. The total magnetic field strength has slowly increased from around 7 nT to 10 nT. The Bz component has oscillated between positive and negative, fluctuating between -10 and +8 nT, but has been mainly negative this morning. Geomagnetic conditions ranged between Kp index 1-5 (NOAA) and local K index 1-4 (Dourbes) over the past 24 hours. A large positive polarity Northern polar coronal hole extending toward low latitudes has just passed into the Western hemisphere. The resulting High Speed Stream (HSS) has enhanced solar wind speeds at and Earth and combined with the largely negative magnetic field has enhanced geomagnetic activity. Increased geomagnetic activity is expected to persist for a couple of days.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 079, based on 24 stations.
