Bulletin

The only active region observed on the visible side of the Sun, NOAA AR 2597, is presently situated close to the west solar limb. Although it was the source of only B-class flares during last 48 hours, it could be still source of the isolated C-class flare in the coming hours. No Earth directed CMEs were observed in the last 24 hours. Earth is presently inside the fast solar wind with the speed of about 680 km/s. The interplanetary magnetic field magnitude is about 7 nT, and the Bz component of the interplanetary magnetic field is fluctuating between 2 nT and -9 nT. The arrival of the fast solar wind from the large coronal hole in the northern hemisphere has induced major storm conditions, lasting for several hours, in the evening of September 28 (starting at about 19 UT). The local station at Dourbes reported K=6, and NOAA reported Kp=6. We expect disturbed geomagnetic conditions to continue in the coming hours.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 016, based on 16 stations.
