Bulletin

Solar X-ray flux has remained at background levels. The minor sunspot formations appearing yesterday have already decayed (Catania 75) or are in decay (Catania 74). No solar flares are expected in the next days. No Earth directed CME's have been recorded in coronagraph data. Solar proton flux values are at background levels and expected to remain so.

Solar wind conditions showed the expected interaction region and sector boundary crossing ahead of the negative polarity coronal hole high speed stream. Density increased steadily from 0:00UT to around 6:45UT when the magnetic field phi angle switched into the negative sector and solar wind speed (as well as temperature) started to increase from the 350-400 km/s range to the 450-500 km/s range. Over this period total magnetic field became elevated peaking around 12nT. Bz was mostly variable with the exception of a 1.5 hour negative excursion to -8.5 nT associated also with a switch back into the positive polarity sector. Solar wind speed is expected to further increase over the next days as the bulk of the high speed stream will become effective with speeds close to 700 km/s. Magnetic field values have currently somewhat recovered but could see some further enhancement over the next days. Geomagnetic conditions were quiet to active (local K Dourbes 0-4 and NOAA Kp 1-4) and are expected to remain unsettled to active with possibly minor storm levels over the next days under the influence of the core of the high speed stream.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 007, based on 20 stations.
