Bulletin

Over the past 24 hours solar activity has been low. No significant flares have been recorded. Active Region (AR) 2652 has been most active, producing several B-class flares, but has now passed over the west solar limb. A small filament channel, associated with AR 2653, currently located around S15W45 has been showing signs of activity and has the potential to produce small Earth directed eruptions. AR 2654 (Mcintosh class:Axx; Mag. type:Alpha) has shown some evidence of flux emergence and cancellation in HMI magnetogram observations, this may increase flaring activity. There were a series of small Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) produced off of the West limb, however these are not anticipated to interact with the Earth system. No Earth directed CMEs have been detected in coronagraph observations. The greater than 10MeV proton flux remained at background levels over the past 24 hours. Solar activity is expected to remain low over the next 24 hours with a small probability of C-class flares.

The solar wind speed has fluctuated between 350 and 400 km/s over the past 24 hours. The total magnetic field strength has fluctuated between 5 nT and 6 nT. The Bz component was largely positive, fluctuating between -5 and +6 nT. Geomagnetic conditions ranged between Kp index 0-2 (NOAA) and local K index 1-3 (Dourbes) over the past 24 hours. Over the next 24 hours Geomagnetic conditions are expected to be quiet to unsettled.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 012, based on 09 stations.
