Bulletin

Solar activity was at very low levels. The Sun was spotless. No earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CME) were observed during the period. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal values.

Solar activity is expected to remain at very low levels.

Solar wind speed decreased from values near 500 km/s to around 430 km/s (ACE) by 07UT. Bz varied between -4 and +3 nT. The interplanetary magnetic field (phi angle) was predominately oriented away from the Sun (positive sector). From 09:03UT until about 11:30UT, the phi angle was directed towards the Sun. This period was associated with slightly increased wind speeds between 450 and 480 km/s, and Bz values nearly continuously near -4nT.

Quiet to unsettled geomagnetic conditions were observed. The wind stream from an irregular shaped negative polarity coronal hole is expected to arrive on 11 August, which may result in mostly unsettled geomagnetic conditions continuing into 12 August, with an isolated active episode not excluded.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 17 stations.
