Bulletin

Solar activity was at very low levels. The Sun was spotless. No Earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CME) were observed during the period. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal values.

Solar activity is expected to remain at very low levels.

The solar wind speed decreased from values near 475 km/s to a minimum of 360 km/s around 4 UT (ACE) before gradually increasing again, due to the solar wind stream from the fragmented negative polarity coronal hole which began to traverse the central meridian on 7 August. Bz varied between -4 and +6 nT. The interplanetary magnetic field (phi angle) was predominately oriented away from the Sun (positive sector) until 3 UT when it switched to the negative sector.

Quiet to unsettled geomagnetic conditions were observed. Quiet to unsettled geomagnetic conditions are expected over the next 24 hours due to the ongoing influence of the wind stream associated with the negative polarity coronal hole.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 22 stations.
