Bulletin

Solar activity was at very low levels, no significant flares have been recorded. The Sun remained spotless. No earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CMEs) have been observed in the available coronagraphic imagery. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal values.

Solar activity is expected to remain at very low levels.

The solar wind speed gradually decreased from 400 km/s to 340 km/s (ACE). The total magnetic field varied between 1 and 5 nT. The direction of the interplanetary magnetic field (phi angle) was predominantly directed away from the Sun (positive sector), with a prolonged interval in the negative sector from 05:00 to 09:30 UT Oct 13. Bz varied between -3 and +4 nT. Geomagnetic activity quiet, with the Kp index (NOAA) and the local k index (Dourbes) recording values of 0-2.

Quiet conditions are expected, with possible unsettled intervals due to the influence of a negative polarity coronal hole which began to traverse the central meridian on Oct 10.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 000, based on 20 stations.
