Bulletin

Solar flaring activity was at very low levels. No significant flares have been recorded. Solar activity is expected to remain at very low levels.

No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) were observed in the available coronagraphic imagery.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at background levels over the past 24 hours. It is expected to stay at background levels for the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux was at moderate levels as a response to the high solar wind speed caused by the High Speed Streams (HSS) originating from the Coronal Hole (CH) crossing Central Meridian (CM) on Oct 19. It is expected to increase further in the 24 hours.

The speed of the solar wind increased at about Oct 23 17:00UT as a response to the arrival of the HSS originating from the CH crossing CM on Oct 19. Values were between 370 and 575 km/s (DSCOVR). The polarity of the Interplanetary Magnetic Field was predominantly away from the Sun (phi angle to positive sector). Bz fluctuated between -11 and +13 nT. The magnitude of the magnetic field varied between 4 and 15 nT. Over the next 24 hours, the solar wind parameters are expected to remain enhanced due to possible impacts of high speed stream from the CHs crossing the solar disk the past days.

The geomagnetic conditions were active (K Dourbes=4). The values registered for the past 24 hours were 1-4 for K Dourbes and 2-4 for NOAA Kp. Unsettled to active conditions, with a possibility of a minor storm are expected for the next 24 hours.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 016, based on 15 stations.
