Bulletin

Solar flaring activity was at very low levels. No significant flares have been recorded. Solar activity is expected to remain at very low levels. Catania group 45 (NOAA AR 2776 - alpha classification - SE) is very gradually decaying. Plage at about N30E50 is yet to form to a region. Catania group 46 has been reported at about N30E20.

No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) were observed in the available coronagraphic imagery.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at background levels over the past 24 hours. It is expected to stay at background levels for the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux was at background to nominal levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so over the next 24 hours.

The speed of the solar wind varied between 330 and 415 km/s (DSCOVR). The polarity of the Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF) switched orientation from towards to away from the Sun (phi angle from negative to positive sector) early Oct 23. Bz fluctuated between -5 and +8 nT. The magnitude of the magnetic field varied between 1 and 8 nT. An extension of the positive northern Coronal Hole (CH) is crossing central meridian. Over the next 24 hours, the solar wind parameters are expected to fluctuate with an overall increasing trend, due to possible impacts of high speed stream from the CHs crossing the solar disk the past days.

The geomagnetic conditions were quiet. The values registered for the past 24 hours were 1-2 for K Dourbes and NOAA Kp. Quiet to unsettled conditions are expected for the next 24 hours.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 018, based on 13 stations.
