Bulletin

The Sun is spotless except from a yet unnumbered beta region that has appeared in the past 24 hours near 20W40S. The Sun has not produced any flares above A level in the past 24 hours. The chance for a C flare in the next 24 hours is estimated at 10%.

No Earth-directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) were observed in available coronagraphic imagery.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels in the past 24 hours, and is expected to stay at nominal levels in the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux was at nominal levels in the past 24 hours, and is expected to stay at nominal levels in the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron fluence was at nominal levels in the past 24 hours, and is expected to stay at nominal levels in the next 24 hours.

The magnitude of the Interplanetary Magnetic Field near Earth (IMF) as registered by DSCOVR increased from about 3 nT around 8h UT on August 2 to current values around 9 nT, while its orientation was predominantly towards the Sun. This may be due to the arrival of the CME that was first observed at 10:36 UT on July 28. The solar wind speed varied between about 350 and 420 km/s in the past 24 hours. Bz was never below -5 nT. Solar wind speeds are expected to stay in a nominal regime in the next 24 hours.

Quiet to unsettled geomagnetic conditions (K Dourbes between 0 and 3; NOAA Kp between 0 and 1) were registered in the past 24 hours. Quiet to unsettled levels (K Dourbes < 4) are expected on August 2, 3 and 4.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 012, based on 21 stations.
