Solar activity was at low levels. NOAA Active Regions (ARs) 2835 and 2836 produced two low level C-class flares at 1809UT and 1843UT Jul 05, respectively. NOAA 2839 and NOAA AR 2837 were inactive. A new sunspot region (Catania 13) has emerged near the centre of the disk S07E03. Solar activity is expected to be generally low over the next 24 hours, with C-class flares likely and a slight probability of an M-class flare.
No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) have been detected in the available coronagraph imagery. There was no signature seen in the coronagraph data relating to the possible filament eruption on Jul 04.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so for the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux remained below the 1000 pfu alert threshold and is expected to remain below this level during the next 24 hours. The 24h electron fluence was at nominal levels and is expected to remain so.
The solar wind speed fluctuated around 330 km/s for most of the period with a small increase to around 370 km/s at the end of the period. The magnetic field showed a slight enhancement at the start of the period reaching 9 nT. The Bz component was predominantly negative and had values between -8 and +8 nT. The solar wind conditions are expected to remain at similar levels over the next 24 hours.
Geomagnetic conditions were quiet to unsettled (NOAA Kp 2-3 and local K Dourbes 1-3) over the past 24 hours. Geomagnetic conditions are expected to be quiet to unsettled over the next 24 hours.
Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 045, based on 21 stations.
