Bulletin

During last 24 hours number of C-class flares, two M-class and one X-class flare were reported. Both M-class flares originated from the NOAA AR 2993 and the X-class flare originated from the NOAA AR 2994. Both of these regions (not yet numbered by Catania) are still in the process of rotating on the visible side of the solar disc as seen from Earth. In the coming hours we can expect flaring activity of the C-class and M-class level as well as isolated X-class flares in particular from the two mentioned active regions. The GOES X 1.1 flare that was observed this morning, peaked at 03:34 UT. The flare was associated with the fast partial halo CME with velocity of about 1000 km/s (as reported by CACTUS software) and the angular width of about 170 degrees. As the source region of the CME was at the East solar limb only the glancing blow from the CME-driven shock can be expected at Earth on April 19.

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at background levels, and the greater than 2 MeV electron flux was under the 1000 pfu threshold, we expect them to remain on these levels in the coming hours. The 24h electron fluence is at normal to moderate level and we expect it will stay so in the coming 24 hours.

Earth is still inside the fast solar wind with velocity of 500 km/s, and the interplanetary magnetic field magnitude is about 6 nT. During the last 24 hours the geomagnetic conditions were quiet to unsettled with one interval of active conditions reported by local station at Dourbes. We expect quiet to unsettled conditions in the coming hours.

Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 078, based on 19 stations.
