Solar flaring activity was low during the last 24 hours, with six C1 flares detected. Four of those came from NOAA Active Region (AR) 3096 (Catania sunspot group 31), one from NOAA AR 3094 (Catania sunspot group 28), and one from a yet-unnumbered AR currently turning into Earth's view. Further C-class flare activity is expected in the next 24 hours, mostly from the AR mentioned above.
No Earth-directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CME) were observed in the last 24 hours.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was at nominal levels over the past 24 hours and is expected to remain so for the next 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux was above the 1000 pfu alert threshold during the last 24 hours and is expected to remain above this level for the next 24 hours. The 24h electron fluence was at moderate levels in the past 24 hours and is expected to remain at these levels during the next 24 hours.
The Solar Wind (SW) conditions featured a very gradual slow down of the SW speed in the last 24 hours. It dropped from just below 600 km/s to approximately 500 km/s. The interplanetary magnetic field was mostly directed away from the Sun during the last 24 hours. Its strength was close to nominal values, varying between 7 and 3 nT, while its north-south component ranged between -6 and 6 nT. The SW conditions are expected to continue to decline in speed very gradually in the next 24 hours, while the magnetic field strength is expected to be at nominal levels.
Geomagnetic conditions reached globally and locally active levels (Kp and K-Belgium 1-4) over the last 24 hours. Unsettled conditions (Kp and K-Belgium 3) are expected for the next 24 hours with possibly short intervals of active conditions.
Today's estimated international sunspot number (ISN): 087, based on 16 stations.
